A MULTI-FACED ARTIST

Fiore Galati was born in the south-Italian town of Lecce, grew up with his grandparents and neighbors. The street was his home, the place to share to meet and enjoy emotions. He mostly shared time between his seamstress’s aunts. During sunny afternoons in March he enjoyed the smell of fire mixed with those of fabrics and he dreamed of stories recounted by adults to children.

And that’s when the spark hit him and later got him in the world of fashion and painting, working with leftover fabrics which would turn out to become grandmother blankets. His refuge was a room opened on a terrace, a magic universe of dress making, painting, tinkering about and poetry. When he was twelve, he started writing songs and dramas and thus forcing cousins to act in front of the family for their greatest pleasure.

In 1978 he rejoined his parents who were established in Bienne Switzerland since 15 years. As he thought he had found his home, his feelings were more like if he had landed among foreigners. This dark episode was heavy on him and he felt quite tormented. However the artist in him took over and got him out of his isolation. He started a fashion course in Milan (SITAM) and obtained his model designer diploma. He pushed ahead and opened his own fashion atelier, created his own collections and organized fashion shows. The national press found an interest in his work and wrote many positive columns.

But his passion for painting was greater and at the beginning of the 90th he exhibited his first works in Switzerland and Italy. His first paintings were abstract and colorful as if the artist was trying to forget his years of suffering. He also wished to forget the pain of the separation from his grandmother and mother with whom he had spent his childhood. In his paintings his roots and emotions, the genuine pleasure of sharing the starlit sky of a summer night emerged. His works also expressed all his emotions he felt when he returned to his native south, the awakening of spring time the first fruits and the perfume of nature.

Today his paintings show the sensibility of a child who became adult. He casted humorous personages who would sort of tell stories talked and interrogated you, lifted you off reality and propelled you in a naïve and joyful trip. In a few words his paintings didn’t leave anybody indifferent.

His works are in fact a mixture of painting, fashion and substance. One gets the feeling that his actors can spring off the canvas to give us a hug and to remind us that life is beautiful. These poetic lines reflect the thoughts of the artist. Life is a difficult beauty and everyone has to find one’s truth. Nothing is insurmountable provided one can open heart and spirit for God, Allah, Buddha and the Universe, the sun, the moon and whatever we call it. Creativity and strength come to us.
Presently Fiore Galati works on decoration, choreographing and organizes international events for well-known names.

Every dream becomes reality as long as we believe so and work hard to get there.
